X and Y Margaret River Sauvignon Blanc 2011

X&Y Margaret River, Sauvignon Blanc, Western Australia, 2011

Screw cap closure, 13% abv, The Co-op, about £10.

WSET style tasting note
Appearance – clear and bright, pale intensity gold, showing distinct tears.

Nose – clean on the nose, with a medium (+) intensity, youthful, with opening aromas of  green pepper and grapefruit pith, then creamy tropical notes of unripe pineapple skin and a hint of passionfruit.

Palate – a dry wine, with medium acidity, a low-level drying of the gums, medium alcohol, medium (-) body, medium intensity flavours of sweet elderflower, bell pepper and ripe grapefruit; a medium length with a clean slightly gummy grip on the finish.

Quality – A good quality wine, with balanced acidity and alcohol, levels of which are in harmony with the intensity of flavour.  There is a modest concentration of a moderately complex palette of flavours. A modest length with a clean finish. This wine will keep for 1-2 years but will not improve.
