Laura Sommierois 2012

Les Vignerons du Sommierois (Co-op), Laura, AOP Coteaux de Languedoc-Sommieres, Gard, Occitanie, France, 2012

A blend of 70% syrah with grenache noir, oak-aged for 6 months; natural cork closure, 13.5% abv, ex-producer, about €12

WSET style tasting note
Appearance: clear and bright, medium intensity ruby, showing tears.

Nose: clean on the nose, of medium intensity, developing, with aromas of slightly high-toned blackcurrant with a lightly medicinal edge, macerated black cherry, a little meaty, with vanilla and woody hints.

Palate: a dry wine, with medium acidity, smooth well-integrated medium tannins, medium (+) alcohol, and a medium (+) body, of medium intensity with a smooth lightly oily texture, with a dominant sweet flavour of ripe blackcurrant, with lesser blackberry and black cherry notes.  A medium (+) length with a clean lightly grippy finish dominated by a black berry flavour.

Quality: a good quality wine, with acidity and tannins balancing the intensity of black-berried fruit flavour.  Not a complex wine, nor simple, with a modest concentration of flavour.  Whilst showing a little tertiary evolution with medicinal and a fatty/meaty nuance, this wine does not have the acidity, tannins or flavour concentration to develop in cellar in a positive way. It is ready to drink now and will keep for 1-2 years.
