WSET style tasting note
Appearance: clear and bright, medium intensity amber, showing tears.
Nose: clean on the nose, with a pronounced intensity, fully developed, with slightly high-toned aromas of dark toffee, sweet roasted walnuts, rich warmed raisins, rich christmas cake, dark burnt marmalade (perhaps on hot toast), dark tobacco and a hint of gloss paint.
Palate: a medium-sweet wine, with high acidity, fortified high, a full body, pronounced intensity, with a moderate grip and a smooth velvety texture, with flavours of warmed raisins and sultanas, thick dark toffee, roasted walnuts and a hint of pickled walnuts, nuances of rich tobacco and roasted hazelnuts. A long length with a clean, rich, toffee and raisin finish.
Quality: a very good quality wine, rich and intense with concentrated palettes of tertiary aromas and flavours; the high acidity is a perfect match for the residual sugar and stands up to the strong flavour intensity. Shows a decent level of complexity, given time – at least 30 minutes.
Readiness for drinking/potential for ageing: ready to drink now, this wine is fully developed, and though it will keep for decades, will not improve with further cellaring.
