CVNE Imperial Rioja 2010

CVNE, Imperial Reserva, DOCa Rioja, La Rioja, Spain, 2010

This wine: a tempranillo dominated blend with graciano and mazuelo, reserva regs are a minimum of 1 year in oak (US and French used here) and 2 years in bottle, natural cork closure, 13.5% abv, Majestic Wine, £20 (2016)

Consumer tasting note: faulty.

WSET style tasting note
Appearance: clear and bright, of deep intensity ruby, showing tears.

Nose: clean, medium intensity, developing, with aromas as they come, of creamy vanilla, spicy red plum, some black berry, low-key cedar, liquorice.

Palate: dry, medium acidity, drying high tannins, medium (+) alcohol, medium body, medium (-) intensity, with flavours of black berry edged with liquorice. A medium length with a drying grippy finish.

Quality: faulty, lacking intensity and complexity, with a shortish length, with mouth-puckering drying tannins. Probably infected by low level brettanomyces.

Readiness for drinking/potential for ageing: faulty.
