Atlantique, Sauvignon blanc, IGP Val de Loire, Loire, France, 2015
This wine: varietal sauvignon blanc, screw cap closure, 12% abv, Waitrose, £8 (2016)
Consumer tasting note: a straightforward sauvignon blanc, fresh acidity, with a nose of citrus edged with green pepper and cut grass, with a touch of warmer pineapple skin; quite plain in the mouth with grapefruit and lemon, pans out to a medium length.
WSET style tasting note
Appearance: clear and bright, pale intensity lemon, showing tears.
Nose: clean, medium (+) intensity, youthful, with aromas as they come, of grapefruit, a little grassy, pineapple skin, edge of green pepper, lemon pith.
Palate: dry, medium (+) acidity, medium alcohol, medium body, medium (+) intensity, a smooth texture which seems to reduce the acidity on entry, with flavours of grapefruit, lemon pith, edge of green pepper. A medium length, with a clean citrussy, lightly grippy finish.
Quality: good, a sound acid-alcohol balance, in keeping with the flavour intensity. Youthful, decent overall intensity on the nose, with a simple complexity, simpler on the palate; showing a slight grip from maceration on the skins, and a smooth texture from time on the lees; decent flavour concentration with a slightly disappointing length.
Drinking readiness/ageing potential: drink now, unsuited to ageing – fairly simple with a sound structure, and lacking flavour concentration, complexity and indicative length.
