Trenet Absinthe France

Trenet, Premium Absinthe, France, NV

See my notes on aniseed flavoured spirits.

This spirit: contains wormwood, screw cap closure, 60% abv, 4cl, widely available, ~£4

WSET style tasting note
Appearance: clear, pale intensity blue-green, if pushed, then the blue component dominates slightly.

Nose: clean, pronounced intensity, with aromas as they come, of softly aromatic spearmint, aniseed balls, herbaceous hints, unaged. Dilution with water causes slight louching with tendrils visible on swirling, and brings about a more spirity character with hints of nail varnish, aniseed dominates now, just tinged with spearmint.

Palate: dry, smooth alcohol, medium body, pronounced intensity, with flavours of aniseed ball, rubbed green herbs, with a hint of damp woodiness. A long length, with a clean moderately spirity finish, with a slight bitterness on the end; showing some complexity.

Quality: very good, showing some complexity on a strong nose, alcohol becomes a little harsh on dilution, diluting further softens and rounds – there is a balance; altogether harmonious, with good flavour concentration, and a long length.
