Delsol Picpoul de Pinet 2017

Domaine Delsol, AOP Picpoul de Pinet, Herault, Occitanie, 2017

This wine: lot No. none visible, varietal picpoul blanc, Nomacorc synthetic closure, 12.5% abv, Les Caveaux d’Ensérune, Capestang, €4.80 (05/18)

Consumer tasting note: pale lemon hued with fresh acidity, a quite simple but pleasant enough quaffer or with seafood, with a profile of yellow apple and grapefruit, with edges of linden and a faint nuttiness. Finishes medium.

WSET style tasting note
Appearance: clear and bright, pale intensity lemon, showing tears.

Nose: clean, medium intensity, youthful, with aromas as they come, of yellow apple, grapefruit flesh, touches of beeswax and a faint nuttiness, along with floral linden (lime tree blossom) nuances.

Palate: dry, high acidity, medium alcohol, medium body, medium intensity, a smooth texture and a very light grip, with flavours of yellow apple, grapefruit flesh, and a faint almond-like nuttiness. A medium length with a clean apple-citrus finish, with a quite low-key grip.

Quality: acceptable, well-balanced fresh acidity with alcohol, leaving the palate sparkly clean; commonplace intensity, similar concentration, showing simple complexity, with an almost monotone palate; may have spent a little time on the lees. Finishes medium.

Drinking readiness/ageing potential: drink now, unsuited to ageing, but will keep for a year, perhaps two.
