Touraine Sauvignon 2016

Domaine du Chapitre, Le S, AOC Touraine, Loir et Cher, Centre-Val de Loire, France, 2016

This wine: lot No. L066, varietal sauvignon blanc, 2+1 technical agglomerate cork closure, 12.5% abv, ex-producer, €6.50 (05/18)

Consumer tasting note: citrus and dessert apple with a touch of richer stone fruit on the nose; light-medium bodied with flavours of dessert apple and white peach, with hints of almond oil nuttiness. Finishes medium. No need to decant.

WSET style tasting note
Appearance: clear and bright, pale intensity lemon, showing tears.

Nose: clean, medium (+)  intensity, youthful, with aromas as they come, of grapefruit segments, hint of cut dessert apple, lemon pith, white peach (which becomes stronger with time), stewed apple.

Palate: dry, medium (+) acidity, medium alcohol, medium (-) body, medium (+) intensity, a very light grip, with flavours of cut dessert apple, white peach, hint of passion fruit, hint of almond oil nuttiness and a passing vague hint of anise. A medium length with a clean dessert apple-white peach-almond oil edged finish.

Quality: good, well balanced fresh acidity with alcohol, suiting the citrus-orchard fruit profile; decent intensity, similar concentration, showing a better than simple youthful complexity, finishes a sound medium.

Drinking readiness/ageing potential: drink now, unsuited to ageing, but will keep for a year – a fresh, fruity wine designed for early consumption.
