This wine: lot No. – none, not required until 1990, varietal sauvignon blanc, fill level 43 mm below the cork, natural cork closure (stained/mouldy capsule, cork end 2.5mm below the bottle mouth, but stained for the complete length, with a sherry/madeira aroma), 12.5% abv, Vintage Wines, £5 bin end (07/17)

Consumer tasting note: interesting to try, completely oxidised (maderised), with aroma  and flavour profiles not dissimilar to sercial or verdelho Madeira.

WSET style tasting note
Appearance: clear and bright, deep intensity gold, showing tears.

Nose: unclean, faulty – oxidised, pronounced intensity, too old, with aromas as they come, reminiscent of sercial madeira – toffee, burnt caramel, heavily bruised and browned apple, christmas cake, crushed roasted nuts, hint of oil paint.

Palate: dry, high acidity, medium (-) alcohol,  medium (-) body, medium (+) intensity, a noticeable grip, with flavours again sercial madeira-like – heavily bruised apple, crushed roasted nuts, toffee, pickled walnut. A long length with a completely oxidised character.

Quality: faulty – oxidised.

Drinking readiness/ageing potential: faulty – oxidised.
