Ch. des Vaults Savennieres 2005

Domaine du Closel – Chateau des Vaults, La Jalousie, AOC Savennieres, Maine et Loire, Pays de la Loire, France, 2005

Some notes on the Savennieres appellation.

This wine: lot No. LSG35, varietal chenin blanc, coated natural cork closure, 14% abv, Gauntleys, £13 bin end (08/16)

Consumer tasting note: faulty – oxidised, aka maderised.

WSET style tasting note
Appearance: clear and bright, deep intensity gold, showing tears.

Nose: unclean – oxidised, medium (+) intensity, too old, with aromas as they come, of dried apricot, dried pear, thick honey, quince edged with melted butter, touch of prune, nutty like almond, a hint of toffee.

Palate: dry, medium acidity, medium (+) body, medium (+) alcohol, medium intensity, with a monotone character of lightly bruised apple, edged with hazelnut and a suggestion of dried apricot. A medium (-) length, with a slight bitterness throughout.

Quality: faulty – oxidised, a quite interesting oxidised nose, but when it comes to the palate all is lost, a low-key monotone sherry-madeira-like character appears.

Drinking readiness/ageing potential: faulty.
